1. A Study into Applying of PFMEA in Iran Auto Parts Industry [Download PDF]

Abstract:

PFMEA is presented as a powerful tool for preventing the defects in the process development. We deployed it in VAM CO (an Auto Parts Industry Company in Iran) to evaluate effectiveness of PFMEA in reducing failures (the main goal). We prospected excellent result of applying PFMEA but, it had not appeared in practice. Therefore, we benchmarked VAM CO with the other Iranian companies to finding the reasons of this problem. The results show that all of the benchmarked companies have the same problems in applying of PFMEA. In this paper, we illustrate these common problems and propose related solutions.

2. Genetic Algorithm for Energy-Aware QoS Multicast Routing in MANETs [Download PDF]

Abstract:

In mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), mobile nodes rely on batteries for proper operation. Battery energy of each node is finite and represents one of the greatest constraints for designing multicast routing protocols. Considering limited battery energy in supporting multicast service, some studies have proposed several techniques for designing a power-saving network layer. These techniques include minimizing the total power to route packets in path selection, optimizing the size of control headers, reducing the transmission of control messages, and etc. This paper discusses the quality-of-service multicast routing problem in MANETs which is NP-complete. In order to prolong the lifetime of a source-based multicast tree, we present an Energy-Aware Multi-Constrained Genetic Algorithm (EAMC_GA) to resolve this problem that depends on: (1) bounded end-to-end delay; and (2) minimum battery cost of the multicast tree. Furthermore, we use a data structure of tree to encode a multicast tree, thereby simplifying the encoding/decoding operations of genetic algorithm. Experiment results show that our proposed algorithm is efficient and effective.

3. Extrafoveal Vision Maximizes the Likelihood to Grab Information in Visual-sequential Search [Download PDF]

Abstract:

Visual input from the external world is actively sampled for promoting appropriate actions during everyday life. This mechanism is dynamic and not one-shot made, and involves a continuous re-sampling of spatial elements. The Eye-tracking version of the Trail Making Test is a repeated search task in which subject is asked to connect by gaze a logical sequence of numbers and letters. In this task the target of the next fixation changes continuously reproducing an "in-vitro real search". Twenty subjects performed the test and their gaze was registered through an eye-tracking device. Results reported that subjects planned some within-target fixations. To understand this mechanism we propose a probabilistic model and compare the visual search outcome with subjects' exploration; computer generated data reported a strategy similar to the humans strategy. We hypothesized that subjects maximized the probability to catch the target with extra-foveal information, landing in the midst of the whole configuration. We conclude that selective spatial attention is influenced by the likelihood to build an appropriate spatial map.
