[1] A high-Performance Router: using fair-dropping policy

Authors:

Seyyed Nasser Seyyed Hashemi(Correspondence author), Shahram Jamali, Hadi Moratez

Abstract:

Active queue management (AQM) employs some types of feedbacks to disseminate congestion information to the sources. Packet dropping is the most used feedback on the Internet. This paper discusses that an unfair dropping discipline leads to performance reduction, the unfair bandwidth sharing and the instability on the Internet. Then it proposes a fair dropping AQM algorithm and shows how this fairness improves the network performance, fairness and stability. Extensive packet-level simulations done in ns-2 environment, show that the proposed algorithm, on one hand, presents a fair bandwidth allocation among competitor flows and on the other hand, this fairness is a launcher for improved performance in terms of link utilization, queue size and packet drop rate.

[2] Generators of Petri Net Models

Author:

Dmitry A. Zaitsev

Abstract:

To fill a gap in large-scale realistic Petri net models, meant for formal methods design and corresponding software testing, generators of Petri nets were presented. A Petri net generator is a program, developed on the parametric description of a Petri net, which produces a model having required characteristics, for instance, size. The technique of generators development was described on an example of computing grid model represented either in logical or in graphical format. Generators were successfully applied for testing plug-ins for simulating system Tina, verification of Ethernet protocols, and analysis of computing grids. Modeling of manufacturing systems, business processes and concurrent programs are prospective application areas of the generators.

[3] Asymptotic space method for multi-dimensional problems

Authors:

Xiaopeng Luo, Zhenzhou Lu (Correspondence author), Xin Xu

Abstract:

This paper presents a convenient method to reduce a d-dimensional problem to an arbitrary k-dimensional problem (k < d) for any given precision. The basic idea comes from the fact that a given compact plane region can be almost filled with a certain parameter curve. And the notion of asymptotic space is introduced from this observation. The presented method is much helpful to handle many multi-dimensional problems such as integral approximation and pattern recognition.
