[1] A Comparison of Multi-scale Approaches for Extracting Image Descriptors from the Co-occurrence Matrix

Abstract:

One of the first methods for analyzing the texture of an image was proposed in 1979 by Haralick, who introduced the co-occurrence matrix for calculating a set of image statistics. In this paper we focus on novel texture descriptors extracted from the co-occurrence matrix. It is well known that scale is important information in texture analysis, since the same texture can be perceived as different patterns at distinct scales. In this work we present, compare and combine different strategies for extending the texture descriptors extracted from the co-occurrence matrix at multiple scales. The texture descriptors are used to train a support vector machine and some different fusion techniques are compared. Our results are validated using seven image classification problems (mainly medical image classification problems). Our results shown that we improve the performance of the standard approaches.

[2] On the Structure of the Class NP

Abstract:

A new class UF of problems is introduced, strictly included in the class NP, which arises in the analysis of the time verifying the intermediate results of computations. The implications of the introduction of this class are considered. First of all, we prove that P  NP and establish that it needs to consider the problem “P vs UF” instead the problem “P vs NP”. Also, we determine the set-theoretical of properties of one-way functions that used in cryptology.

[3] A Study on Anatomy of Smartphone

Abstract:

The latest smartphones are attributed with the quality graphics, portable size and user applications support and multimode connectivity features. Smartphone incorporatesthe capabilities of both computing and communication devices. The latest distributed computing models are focused on employing smartphone as a significant stakeholder for enabling complicated and ubiquitous applications in the changing mobile computing world. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the components of smartphone and its working behavior for operation in the cellular and data networks. In this paper we study the anatomy of the smartphone by discussing its major components such as application processor and baseband processor. We describe different subcategories of smartphone components and highlight the behavior and significance of each component for dual mode functionalities of smartphone. The paper provides tutorial for understanding the architecture of the smartphone and exploring the functionalities of the dual processors of smartphone which are used for accessing different types of wireless networks. It helps in developing optimal procedures for deploying the components of the smartphone while accessing cellular and data networks

[4] Some Properties Of p−Primitive Words

Abstract:

In this paper, we first give a sufficient condition to judge a homomorphism which preserves p −primitive words. Although it was concerned by Huang C.C. and Yu S.S. in 2008 in Discrete Mathematics, our result is an easier method than theirs. Then we construct two kinds of p −primitive words. At last we prove the set of all p −primitive words with even lengths and odd lengths are disjunctive languages.

[5] Assisting Architectural Designers with a Collaborative Semantic Web

Abstract:

This paper presents a research on the collective activity of architectural design that has led to develop a new semantic web tool for enhancing it. This research has been commissioned by a specific architectural design team to better understand their own work patterns in order to improve them. Consequently, the work has consisted in analyzing the collective architectural design of the team on one hand and to search the better means to aid it on the other hand. So, in a first phase, we have realized an architecturological analysis of the collective work implemented in architectural design and in a second phase, we have developed a prototype of an original new semantic collaborative web tool to assist the agency to better work together. From the first phase, three kinds of result have been built: results about the representations built and uses to collaborate in architectural conception, results about the means of the collective work of architectural conception and results about the needs of computer tools for collaborative design. The second phase of the research has led to build a prototype of a new semantic web tool adapted to the collective work of the agency, based on Web 2.0 technologies, and enhanced with semantic web techniques and a Multi-Agent Systems.

[6] Gender Influence on ICT Use by Undergraduates in Two University Libraries in NIGERIA

Abstract:

ICT use helps to facilitate easy access to electronic information for research and learning purposes by undergraduates. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of gender on the use of ICT among undergraduates in two university libraries in Nigeria. Undergraduates from three faculties were randomly selected to give a sample of 223, which is 30% fraction of the total population of 12,353. Questionnaire was the data collection method used. The undergraduates used ICT for research purpose and to support course of study. ICT use was higher among the undergraduates in Lead City University than those in University of Ibadan. ICT use was influenced by gender in both universities. Recommendations based on the outcome of this study were highlighted in this paper.

[7] How Conditional Random Fields Learn Dynamics: An Example-Based Study

Abstract:

In this paper1we investigate how Conditional Random Fields (CRFs) learn dynamics. To demonstrate the ability of CRF in learning dynamics, a discriminative probabilistic framework, Temporal Conditional Random Fields, is presented for the modeling of the object motion and tracking. The main drawback of generative models, such as HMM and MRF is that they can simply employ the relation between states without considering the relation between states and measurements, while discriminative frameworks can model any arbitrary relation between measurements and states. To facilitate such a powerful graphical model to learn the object motion, and to achieve a CRF-based estimation based upon the advantage of the discriminative framework, a set of graphical temporal relations is proposed for the object tracking, including feature functions, such as optical flow (calculated based upon consequent frames) and line field features. Based on temporal feature function, we show the ability of CRF in dynamic learning mathematically. As it is assumed that the object motion is nearly constant and that the current measurement is not available when TCRF estimates the target state, therefore, the changing of the object motion is addressed by utilizing a template matching in order to determine and then retrain TCRF. The proposed method is validated using synthetic and real data sequences. This shows that the TCRF estimation error is approximately zero.
